About the event

“We either walk around with our ancestors on our backs, or we stand on their shoulders.” – Maya Tiwari

Tarpana is an Ayurvedic practice of making offerings to the divine. It is a way to give thanks and blessings to our ancestors and lineage. Most of us live our lives focused on the future while carrying burdens from the past. Sometimes those burdens aren't even our own, but have been handed down through the generations. Our family stories become our stories and affect how we live our lives.

Many cultures around the world have celebrations and rituals focused on honoring their ancestors. From an Ayurvedic perspective, family stories need to be processed and digested, or else we carry them as Ama, toxins.

Appreciating what our ancestors went through in their lives, feeling gratitude for the gifts they shared in your lineage, and honoring the gifts you have been given, even if it is insight into the behaviors and patterns that came from your lineage. Together, we will make an offering to our ancestors. Our time together will include ritual, meditation, mantra, breath work and grounding practices.

What To Expect In Our Ceremony:

  • Class will include an introduction and preparation steps for the ceremony.
  • Be prepared to journal, practice light yoga, mantra and meditation.

What To Bring:

  • Pen, paper and comfortable clothing for light yoga and meditation.
  • Please bring any pictures or personal belongings of your ancestors for our temporary shrine.
